Vocational

The vocational/work experience program are a key component of the Teen Challenge program offers a number of benefits to the student while in the program. The principle benefits derived by students are not compensation and in-kind benefits but are (1) awareness of sin and the need for regeneration, repentance, forgiveness, recover, (2) freedom from reliance on controlled substances, (3) learning the value of respect for authority, (4) developing habit patterns of regular schedule, work responsibility, and performance accountability that are all foudnational to being a prodoctive and responsible citizen.

Shenandoah Valley Teen Challenge is pleased to offer a number of vocational and work experience opportunities for students participating in our program. 

 

 

Our Detail Shop is set up in our local community and is run like a regular business. Our Detail Shop manager supervises the students as they are responsible to sign in and out every day when arriving at the shop. The students are not just learning to wash cars but every area of auto reconditioning. Students are also learning to interact with customers that help in brushing up communication skils.

SVTC Wood Shop

A fairly new venture we have begun is our wood shop. In the wood shop students are making arts and crafts using a lot of various tools including: Scroll Saw, Wood Router, Miter Saw, Radial Arm Saw, Dremel Tools, Circular Saw, Table Saw, and Vairous Hand Tools. These crafts in turn we sell at our Choir Outings and various avenues in the community. 

Landscaping and Building Maintence

Another form of work experience is through our lanscaping and building maintenance crew. This crew is assigned to the upkeep of the SVTC properties. This crew also travels out into the community and provides landscaping and maintenance services.
